What Your Parents Taught You Was Wrong

By: Kristin Martineau | February 22, 2019

They didn’t mean to.

They were teaching you what they were taught.

They taught you that other people can hurt your feelings.  “Did she hurt your feelings?”

They taught you that what other people do makes you mad.  “Don’t come home late or I’ll be mad.”

They taught you that other people need to meet your needs. “Marry someone who will always put you first.”

They taught you that you need to meet other people’s needs. “I need you to say thank you or I don’t feel appreciated.”

Some of these thoughts sound lovely, don’t they?

The problem is that they put someone else in charge of how you feel.

If you wait for someone to behave a certain way before you can feel good, you have given that person all your power.

When you have a child with ADHD, chances are they don’t behave how you think they should. Without realizing it, you try to control their behavior so you don’t have to feel frustrated and overwhelmed.

It doesn’t work though and it usually just leaves you feeling more frustrated and overwhelmed.

Good news!

You get to feel however you want to feel no matter what your child is doing.

You really can!

It’s one of the things I’ll be teaching in my new online six week course “Surviving and Thriving when Your Child Has ADHD.”

This class will be taught by me (a certified life coach) and my husband Karl who is a licensed physician completing a fellowship in Child and  Adolescent Psychiatry.

CLICK HERE if you want to be the first to know when the class launches.  As a special gift for being on the interest list, you will get a 50% discount.  The class won’t be this price again EVER so don’t wait!

P.S.  Here’s what one of my clients had to say about working with me:

“I would absolutely recommend coaching with Kristin.  I had some apprehension when my sister in law said this might help me but I am so grateful I did it.  It helped me a ton and instead of me just continuing to wish things were different I learned so many new ways to look at my daughter and it’s been a huge blessing to my relationship with her!” -Megan

This online course is packed full of the same tools I teach my clients, but it’s much more affordable than one-on-one coaching!
